Just a reminder that the Massachusetts Sales Tax Holiday will occur the weekend of August 17th and 18th, 2019.  The holiday allows customers a temporary relief from paying the Massachusetts 6.25% sales tax on purchases of goods within the state (with some exclusions).  The “tax-free” weekend applies to purchases that are under $2,500.

The MA sales tax will still apply for purchases of items that cost $2,500 or more, purchases of cars, boats, alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and utilities or purchases made in the course of business.  For the exclusion items listed above, the entire amount is subject to Massachusetts sales tax, not just the amount in excess of $2,500.

Any business that is open during the sales tax holiday weekend is required to participate in the sales tax holiday.
